Portrait of Emilia (2026), single channel video installation

Portrait of Emilia

(2026), Single channel video installation, 06 minutes 19 seconds, continuous loop.

‘This work portrays the sitter during a significant period of change in her life.  In some ways she is no longer a child, but is not quite a teenager. She is both and neither, evolving, moving forward.  The moment of transition is tangible, yet ephemeral.  The video medium combines image and temporality to create a portrait that captures these rare passing minutes, during this brief state of transformation in one life.’

Portrait of Emilia was awarded the Perpetual Silver Medal for best work by an Associate of the Royal Ulster Academy at the 145th Annual Exhibition, supported by Elston Consulting. The award was selected by guest adjudicator Dr Caroline Campbell, Director of the National Gallery of Ireland.

The 145th Annual Exhibition of the Royal Ulster Academy takes place at the Ulster Museum, Belfast from the 18th October 2026 – 3rd January 2027.
